Frequently Asked Questions Page

What is eLearning?

Understanding eLearning is simple. eLearning is learning utilizing electronic technologies to access educational curriculum outside of a traditional classroom. Our students use ipads and laptops in school and at home to complete classroom work assignments.

What is the eLearning Flex Program?

Taylor Community Schools applied to the Indiana Department of Education for the IN DOE eLearning Flex Pilot Program. We were selected to use this program for the 2017-2018 school year. We have chosen 4 school days to use as eLearning days. What does this mean for you as a parent or community patron? Your student can stay at home and participate in the pre planned eLearning curriculum provided from their teachers and be counted for a school day. The entire school staff will report to work for a structured day of professional development and training. If your student can not stay at home, we will still provide transportation, meal service and classroom instruction, but you will need to let us know. We have provided an online form   (Taylor eLearning Attendance Form )  as well as paper forms for this purpose.

Do we come to school on the eLearning Flex Program Day?

Maybe? This will take some arrangement for parents to keep their child at home during a work day. If your student must attend school on the eLearning Flex Program day, that is fine. We will still provide transportation, meal services and classroom instruction for your students. But you will need to let us know before the eLearning Flex day. We will provide an online form (Taylor eLearning Attendance Form) as well as paper forms for your submittal. This way we know who needs provide transportation and instruction.

When are the eLearning Flex Program days at Taylor for the 2017-2018School Year

We have chosen the following school days as eLearning Days:

TBA

What is the eLearning Virtual Option for Inclement Weather as a make up day?

Taylor Schools applied to the IN DOE for a Virtual Option for Inclement Weather to make up attendance days lost to extreme weather. We were accepted and decided to use the day of inclement weather as the eLearning day. You will receive a skylert call anouncing the Taylor has closed and will be using that day as an eLearning  day. This will eliminate the addition of days to the end of the school year calendar. If there are multiple inclement weather days in succession, only the first day will be an eLearning Day, the rest will be made up by calendar days or Saturday eLearning Make Up Days.

What is required of our students on the eLearning day?

Students will be required to complete virtual assignments in the turn in window, which their teacher will explain. Your student should have clear understanding on what is expected of them. The assignment should be accomplished at home during the eLearning day as teachers will be available for six hours on the eLearning day. This work will not be accomplished during the normal school day. By completing these assignments, your student will be marked as attended during the eLearning Day and work scored towards semester grade.

How much school work will they be required to accomplish?

Students will be assigned virtual classroom work from each class or subject they have in a normal school day. Each lesson will be relevant to current instruction and should not take students much time to complete when on task. We do not want to overload our students with busy work. By using current instruction we can give them work to prepare for state assessments and meet educational standards that they missed on the inclement weather day.

What if I do not have Internet at home?

There are a couple of options that students can use. First, we will supply all students and parents with a list of Free Wifi throughout our Taylor Community. Most of these businesses are prepared  for extra patronage by students who do not have Internet access at home. On inclement weather days, we do not encourage any students to leave their homes and travel. If the student can not complete the work due to Internet Access, they will be given time once school is back in session to complete eLEarning work.

How can we get help as a student or parent?

All students have their teacher contacts for the eLearning days. Teachers will give preferred contact information to your students. These could be email, texting, cell phone, school phone or in person, depending on teacher. Tech support and Admin Team contacts will be available at anytime with the iPad Help APP on students iPads and on the website. Your teacher is the first contact to be made for help.
